A miracle is an event that violates the laws of nature; which, by definition, is impossible. There are no miracles, only extreme coincidences, unlikely scenarios, and rare incidences of good fortune; none of which need the intervention of a supernatural hand to come about. An educated person -- even in the midst of deep faith or great wonder -- uses the word in a metaphorical sense only. There never was an age of miracles, only one of ignorance.
