Cliche

A cliché is a catchy phrase used once too often. What seems clever or witty the first few times it's heard will always become hackneyed and shopworn over time. All words eventually wear out their welcomes. If we had to listen to people wishing us a "Merry Christmas" year round we would soon come to hate the phrase. Even "I Love You" becomes tiresome after a while.
