A Thick Skin and an Open Mind

Everyone's vision of the world can stand a little fine tuning. Hearing the opinions of others -- even others with whom you violently disagree and will always violently disagree -- is helpful in this respect.

Philosophical diversity and the mass media are the two defining characteristics of the modern world. To survive and thrive in the 21st Century one needs, both, a thick skin and an open mind.

No one has the right not to be offended. The truth can be approached from different directions and viewed from different angles. Even a lie can shed light on a large issue or a complex problem.
